Here is a clip which is probably not taken from David Lynch's new movie (which is still in production), but is more likely a short film he did, tangential to the movie and using the same actors and digital video:

link

If you're on the fence about Lynch, don't bother watching it, as this will probably confirm your worst suspicions. If you like Lynch, well, it's interesting, especially the way the background shifts behind Udo Kier's head, and the reactions of the two women...until the song part.

As for INLAND EMPIRE, it's "a mystery about a woman in deep trouble" and the title refers to an area outside of Los Angeles.

Hmm..David Lynch getting dangerously close to falling into self parody. Or maybe he already has.

Either way, I kinda liked it as a short. It's got his unsettling dream logic/dialogue touch that I always enjoy but I seriously hope that wasn't from INLAND EMPIRE. I doubt I could take 90+ minutes of that.

Thanks for posting that. Interesting indeed.

I do believe that actor is Stanley Kamel, not Udo Kier; though he does kinda have a midwestern Udo vibe goin' on... ;)
You can get that Inland clip, as well as an interview with Lynch (and also a 20 minute pitch for Avid) on DVD for free from digitaldesign.com.

I beleive that is a scene from INALND EMPIRE. Not certain. It's the scene they show on the "Room to Dream" DVD. And no, he has not fallen into self-parody.

How can you not love Blue Velvet? I guess 20 years has passed and now it doesn't have the impact that it once had, but for me it hasn't aged much at all.

The Falling into self parody comment.. when I read it I thought, rubbish. But when I watched the clip..I definetly felt that I had been there before.. I dunno though, that's just what auters do though, take you to the same place. I dunno, I'll wait to see the film

edit - yes that girl was nice.. wasn't she in twin peaks?

Word. I'm just saying that if someone were to attempt to make a short parody of David Lynch it, on a surface level at least, would probably look something like this. Because when most people think of David Lynch they think of the red room from Twin Peaks. People sitting/standing around, saying strange, ominous things to eachother.

Granted, it wouldn't be as effective as this short is, but you see what I'm saying.

blue velvet is classic. I liked the way the background was unstable but the characters were still.

Oh, sorry, the website is digidesign.com, not digitaldesign.com.
Here's a direct link:

If you didn't get to see it at the cineplex, I'm sorry. Your chance to watch it on the small screen is rapidly approaching. In my opinion, this is Lynch's finest work.

The DVD will contain 75 minutes of new scenes.

Whistled too soon.

For those of you in Chicago, INLAND EMPIRE is screening, along with Lynch's catalogue (minus Eraserhead), at the Gene Siskel Film Center. July 14th and 18th. Go.
