With the death of intellectual property and the increased value of "digital" goods, for most artists revenue streams from music sales have gotten smaller and smaller. As someone who believes that information and intellectual property wants to be free, the issue of how artists keep food on the table in a capitalist society is always an issue. Much of the music I release is "free" yet it is created using electricity. Most of the work that I derive the most joy from is work that although it adds value, is unpaid work. Unlike many of my peers, I choose not to tour year round and would rather put my energy into expanding my work as a journalist and providing support for various social movements and continuing to engage directly in the class struggle. Not everyone can afford to pay for food, let alone music, and those who can make it possible for me to continue to do what I love. Thanks!
